We are swooning over this unique special feature to add to your wedding day. Meagan makes your wedding ceremony or reception a true work of art by painting every detail live. Meagan Davis is the lady behind Davisdrew. You can thank us later, but don't miss out on the opportunity to have this special experience a part of your wedding day!
We interviewed Meagan to get to know more about her work with couples and her passion behind the art! Take a look below.
1. How did you get started? Did you always know you wanted to be a live wedding painter? What inspired you to take the leap into pursuing being a live wedding painter?
"I’ve always loved art. Throughout college, law school, and my career art has always been a creative outlet and my favorite form of stress relief. In the fall of 2017, I ventured into live event painting as a means of contributing to the fundraising efforts of local non-profit organizations. After completing multiple live event paintings in the fundraising setting, I decided to take a leap of faith and branch out into the live wedding painting market. I love live wedding painting because it gives me the opportunity to interact with guests, experience the event, and truly capture the vibe of the day into a piece of art! I am thrilled to have twelve weddings booked for 2019 and so excited to see this year unfold for davisdrew."
2. What's your experience like from point of contact to the wedding day?
"Every client is different, so things always change depending on a particular client’s needs. My goal is always to ensure that my interactions with client’s leave them feeling, comfortable, confident, and calm. I want my clients to feel comfortable to reach out with any questions, to feel confident in my ability to see their vision for the piece of art, and to feel calm knowing that the addition of my services will not add any stress to their wedding day. Live Wedding Painting is a fairly new trend, so clients tend to have a lot of questions about the process. I offer both ceremony and reception paintings and typically spend time discussing the pros and cons of each service. I’m always happy to talk through every aspect of the painting process. I encourage clients to call or text me with any questions, to send photos of the venue, share wedding colors/themes/florals, and to let me know if they have any specific requests for the painting."
3. What do you love most about your job? What challenges have you faced or do you face?
"My favorite part of live wedding painting is actually getting to be a part of the event. It’s so fun to interact with guests while I’m painting and to experience the event first hand. I think it adds so much quality to the painting when it is created on the spot during the event. I’m honestly still amazed that people are letting me paint at their weddings - it truly is an honor each time someone asks me to be a part of their big day! Outdoor weddings tend to be the most challenging from an artist standpoint. I’ve painted full ceremonies staring directly into the sun, I’ve had to stand with one foot on my easel to keep in level painting on uneven ground, and I’ve held a canvas on the easel while painting because of windy conditions. Despite the inherent challenges of dealing with mother nature, outdoor weddings are always so much fun to paint and result in truly beautiful pieces of art! I’m always willing to risk it, I’ve already got a plan for how I’ll attach an umbrella to my easel when that day comes."
4. What's the funniest/most inspiring wedding story/moment that has happened to you?
"At my first wedding of 2019, I was able to present the painting directly to the bride after the ceremony. Sometimes, in the hustle and bustle of wedding days, I give the painting to the wedding coordinator, maid of honor, or mother of the bride because the bride is busy enjoying her wedding reception (as she should be!). But, at this particular wedding the bride was still in the ceremony location for photographs and I was able to give the painting directly to the her before she and her new husband went to the reception. The videographer took the most adorable photo of both of our reactions during the exchange and I just LOVE that picture! It was a moment filled with true joy and a wonderful reminder of why I love what I do. It made me so excited for all the weddings I get to be a part of in 2019."
5. What's the one piece of advice you could give a couple on their wedding day?
"My biggest piece of advice - Enjoy every single moment."
